Frontline workers combatting Queensland’s crime crisis are set to get extra support, with the Crisafulli Government delivering permanent funding for high-visibility police operations in the North and Far North.
The $31.1 million boost will help target high-crime locations to bolster the region’s frontline and work to restore community safety.
It comes after communities in the North were left outraged following a home invasion in Manunda, where a woman was sexually assaulted while her husband was held at knifepoint by youth offenders.
There has also been a spike in car theft crime in the North, despite the introduction of tougher Making Queensland Safer Laws.
Patrols and mobile police beats will be increased in shopping centers and restaurant precincts, service stations and other public spaces.
