St John’s Greek Orthodox Parish is a not-for-profit organisation that encompasses St John’s Community Care Aged & Disability Services and Redlynch Daycare Centre. Planning and preparations have commenced for the Annual Greek Festival on the 8th June 2025, at Redlynch. The event is held in the picturesque gardens with the Byzantine church in the background and provides the opportunity for the community to experience the feeling of being in Greece. Every year large crowds of people from the local community and regional areas attend to embrace the diverse culture in FNQ. This event continues to be a success, attendees enjoy the delicious Greek food and lip-smacking sweets, music, dancing, multicultural entertainment and children’s activities. Join in Zorba dancing lessons, plate smashing, honey puff eating – cooked right in front of you – and olive spitting competitions, as well as Belly Dancing. The church tours draw in crowds to view the majestic Byzantine icons. There will also be a Cooking Demonstration by Alisatare (experienced chef) celebrating and showcasing the flavors of Greek foods. This year, seasoned performers Mel Lathouras and Katerini Manolatos from ‘The Girl from Greece’ will bring a dynamic mix of culture and music to the event. The entertainment program includes the talented Brisbane Cypriot Dance Group. Entry is a voluntary Gold Coin donation, and the festival is from 10:00 till 3:00pm. A great family event and fun activities. Money raised from the Greek Festival multi raffle goes towards purchasing resources needed for families and clients of St John’s.
