Cairns has secured an NRL premiership match for the first time in five years.

The 2023 NRL draw has been announced and will see the Dragons take on the Rabbitohs at Barlow Park on August 12.

Member for Cairns Michael Healy says the game is predicted to generate up to $5 million for the Cairns visitor economy.

“This adds to the event economy, which is vitally important for Cairns,” Mr Healy says.

“It’s good for jobs and it’s good for our restaurants and hotels.”

The North Queensland Cowboys will also head to Cairns a trial game on February 12 at Barlow Park against the Dolphins.
